Rani of Jhansi Lakshmibai , the   Rani of Jhansi   (   pronunciation  ( hel p · inf o ) ; 19 November 1828 – 18 June 1858 was the queen of the   princely state   of   Jhansi   in North   India   currently present in Jhansi district in   Uttar Pradesh , India. ]   She was one of the leading figures of the   Indian Rebellion of 1857   and became a symbol of resistance to the   British Raj   for Indian nationalists. Rani Lakshmibai was born on 19 November 1828in the holy town of   Varanasi   into a   Marathi   Brahmin   family. Shahu of Kolhapur Shahu (also known as   Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj   or   Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj )   GCSI   GCIE   GCVO (June 26, 1874 – May 6, 1922) of the   Bhosle   dynasty, was   Raja   (reign. 1894 – 1900) and   Maharaja   (1900-1922) of   Indian   princely state   of   Kolhapur Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj also known as Rajarshi Shahu was considered a true democrat and social reformer.   First Maharaja of the princely state   of Kolhapur , he was an invaluable gem in the history of Maharashtra.
